Cashnip the Cat: How a Stray Feline Turned Into a Furry Fundraiser

If it were just a few misplaced banknotes, it wouldn’t have needed an explanation. Maybe they had all fallen on the floor. But something didn’t sit right.

It felt like the cash was coming from his cat.

The pile they were playing with each day was getting bigger and bigger.

Was his feline… a cat burglar?

Stuart was passionate about animals—cats in particular. He loved his animals far more than his wife did. Together, the couple had adopted three animals: a dog and two cats. All strays. But somehow, something still felt missing.

Then, one day, a beautiful American Curl appeared on their porch.

After much pleading, Stuart convinced his wife to let him keep the furry feline. Since they weren’t allowed to bring in more strays to the house, he kept the new cat in his office.

Soon, the cat became more than just a companion—it became like a staff member. And then, strangely enough, it started turning a profit.

One morning, Stuart arrived at the office and noticed a few one-dollar bills lying just outside the glass door.

He bent down, picked them up, and placed them on the front desk in a neat pile. He assumed someone had dropped them… no big deal.

But the cat had other plans.

The new stray made himself at home, snoozing on desks, walking across keyboards, and sending out unfinished emails. Everyone at the office adored him.

A few days later, Stuart found more dollar bills in the exact same spot.

Confused, he began to wonder: where was it coming from?

It wasn’t from staff. The cat wasn’t breaking into the petty cash box or rummaging through purses. But still, money kept appearing by the front door. Week after week.

The pile soon reached fifty dollars.

Located in a busy part of town, the office saw plenty of foot traffic. So, they asked management to install a security camera. And what they discovered left them stunned.

During the day, the cat did cat things. Nothing suspicious.

But at night… things changed.

The feline would sit by the entrance door, eyes watching passersby.

Then, a man stopped. He noticed the cat and pulled out a crumpled dollar bill, sliding it through the crack in the glass door.

The cat pounced, tugging the dollar in with its paw, and sat with it like a trophy.

The man laughed, gave the cat a nod, and walked away.

Stuart, watching on camera, scratched his head. What just happened?

But it wasn’t a one-time thing. In fact, it was only the beginning.

Word got out. People started showing up just to play the money game with the clever cat.

They’d giggle and take videos. Some tried to outsmart the cat. But he’d always wait for just the right moment—then SWIPE. Another dollar in the pile.

At one point, there was even a line of people waiting to feed the little “burglar.”

Soon, the cat was sitting on a pile of cash. That’s when Stuart realized: they had a problem.

How could they return the money? It was impossible to track the people down. But keeping it felt wrong.

So, they made a decision.

All the money collected would be donated to homeless shelters and animal charities.

But they didn’t stop there.

Using office supplies, they made a bright, eye-catching sign explaining the cat’s story, his money game, and where the cash would go.

The internet did the rest.

Photos and videos went viral. Soon, the office inbox was overflowing—with messages, letters, and donations from all over the world.

People loved the cat. Even if they couldn’t slide a dollar under the door, they still wanted to help.

Some mailed in letters with $1 bills, others sent far more. The generosity was overwhelming.

And with all the attention… the cat needed a proper name.

After everything, there was only one name that truly fit.

The team christened their lovable feline fundraiser:

Cashnip.

From stray to internet celebrity, Cashnip proved that even a little cat can make a big impact.
